Home will always have a special place in our hearts. And it’s seen most clearly when we have been away. Whenever I come home from a long trip, I always feel this wave of relaxation and energy coming over me.
I just feel like doing the things I always do at home. I want to make food, make coffee, watch TV, have a beer, etc.
And the funny thing is that these are pretty mundane activities. Activities I hardly notice when I haven’t been away.
It seems our brain really like to do the same things over and over again. We feel safe, powerful, and competent. And we know what to expect. Even more so, we get the gratification of having our expectation come true.
That might be one of mankind’s biggest pleasures: to have our expectations come true.
Even if something terrible happened, I can still also feel a satisfaction that I was already expecting it. And I suspect that I am not alone in this. Many people around me have given of similar reactions.
