By the sea…

Well, I’m just back from a wonderful trip to Southern California with the family. My favorite thing to do on any trip is to discover wonderful, unique shops, and of course in California that isn’t difficult to do. I saw a lot of really interesting stores, but my favorite by far was Girard Avenue Collection in La Jolla. The owner, Shannon Turner, has been in business for 14 years and she couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful, and she very kindly let me take photos. After wandering this incredible store for nearly an hour, I was finally able to focus and purchase a few gorgeous things for my house. The entire place is a treasure trove full of beachy farmhouse furniture in yummy shades of whites, greens and blues, incredible coral (I had never seen the grey kind), vintage crystal chandeliers, salvaged architecture, mercury glass and beautiful sea shells. Shannon also has a great collection of seaside paintings (I bought the one shown in the photos), linens and beautiful soaps and candles. Best of all, unlike many of the shops I visited in Los Angeles and La Jolla, this store has really great prices on even it’s most beautiful antiques. If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss it. I can’t wait to go back. 7505 Girard Avenue, La Jolla, CA. 858-459-7765.

    Hi Jennifer,

You couldn’t have talked about anything more relevant for me as we are leaving for California this Tuesday! I will have some time to poke around La Jolla and will definitely stop in at this lovely, lovely shop.
A simple paint job and other light touches is astonishing — wow! Inspiring.
Anyway, it’s great you are back in “business” and it sounds like the new baby has given you energy.
    You go, girl!
    best, Jill
